George White
George Burgess White was born in Anne Arundel County, Maryland in 1789 and died in Madison County, Kentucky in 1870.
George and his mother were both enslaved by Benjamin Burgess at the Puddington Harbour Plantation in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. No additional information is known about his mother at this time however at age four George White and possibly his mother was both bequeathed to John Roland White aka John “Bald” White in Madison County, Kentucky after Benjamin Burgess death in 1793.
It is interesting to note in 2022 researchers discovered while analyzing Y-DNA from a living known Madison County George White descendant through the Big Y-700 genetic test that John Roland White b 1756 was in fact George White’s biological father… when in the past before genetic testing historians felt Benjamin Burgess was George White’s biological father which turned out not to be the case however researchers find high amounts of autosomal DNA that suggest Benjamin Burgess born 1732 and died 1793 might be the biological father of George White’s mother.
Nonetheless, John Roland White, born on March 3, 1756, in Frederick County, Maryland. John Roland “Bald” White passed away at age 70 on April 23, 1825, in Foxtown, Madison County, Kentucky at which time he emancipated his enslaved son George White
Interestingly, after being emancipated in 1825 by his father “Bald” White George White himself owned slaves which those slaves were all his biological children. George owned them for protection until 1850 when he emancipated them in Madison County, Kentucky. However, before George emancipated his children George used his children as collateral to purchase about 200 acres of farmland 10 miles outside of Richmond on Lexington Road on Hinds Creek.
